As I am sure you are aware, unless you have been living up in the mountains with Heidi’s Grandfather and taking care of too many goats in the Swiss Alps to notice, you probably know that this past Tuesday, November 7th, here in America, most citizens went to the polls. You are probably also aware that, in addition to voting in a new, or continuing President, you were going to vote for a Proposition known as Prop 64 (in Colorado), Initiative 502 (Washington State), and Measure 80 (Oregon). Oregon didn’t pass it; Colorado and Washington State did!
In listening to the radio today, I learned that Governor Hickenlooper of Colorado was scheduled to have a conference call with Attorney General Eric Holder to find out what, if anything, the Federal government intends to do about the citizens decision to legalize marijuana despite Governor Hickenlooper’s personal views and the Federal government’s neverending stand. I have not received word (via the radio- believe me, the government and state tell me nothing!) on what the outcome of said meeting was. I will be sure to update this post when I find out.
I want to know this: if Eric Holder decides that his views/those of the federal government are more important than those of millions of voting citizens who want this legalized, in Colorado and Washington, what are we prepared to do about it? Are we going to stand by and let them take away our legal rights as residents and tax paying citizens in America or are we going to do what we usually do-fold like a three-dollar-suit? And while we’re at it, what is NORML and the ASA doing about this? Are they involved?
This is a historic vote. This is probably the biggest overturn of this kind since prohibition (alcohol) was overturned except (in my view) much, much safer, because no one has died due to this beautiful plant yet-and no one is likely to.
So, with all that in mind, who’s coming over and who’s bringing the cheetos and the chocolate chip cookies? And, for heaven’s sake, DON’T FORGET THE BONG!!
